LSU Theatre's season opening production of William Shakespeare's
classic romance The Tempest has been moved to September 30th at
7:30 pm at the Reilly Theatre. This performance will be preceded
by two sneak previews on September 28th (Pay-What-You-Can Night)
and 29th. The show runs through October 5th.
One of Shakespeare's most beloved plays, it has been the inspiration
for everything from the classic sci-fi movie Forbidden Planet to
ABC's new hit series Lost. The play is filled with some of Shakespeare's
most famous characters: the egotisical wizard Prospero, the beautiful
daughter Miranda, the freed spirit Ariel and the enslaved and embittered
Caliban.
Director Femi Euba has long had an affinity for the play and was
especially moved by the plight of Caliban. "To do a production
of The Tempest has been in my mind for so long, especially in terms
of Caliban and the colonial factor
I wish to revisit it from
my own African experience, and because of the cultural affinities
I always feel I have with Shakespeare."
