WAR TAKES CENTERSTAGE
JAMES MCLURE’S ACCLAIMED WORKS COME TO HATCHER HALL
This April, the LSU Studio Theatre presents James McLure’s two acclaimed one-act plays that examine the effects of war on those who fight it and those who have been left behind. Set in Maynard, Texas, Laundry & Bourbon and Lone Star examine the collateral damage by caused the Vietnam War to the lives of its survivors. Told from both the women’s and men’s points of view, the residents of Maynard gossip, carouse, and console each other in these heartfelt and humorous plays.
In Laundry & Bourbon, Elizabeth expectantly awaits the return of her Vietnam vet husband who has abandoned her. Then one day, the town gossip comes in bearing bad news.
Lone Staris the story of Roy, a Vietnam veteran, and his often humorous struggle to keeping things “the way they were” by returning to his old ways of drinking and partying hard.
