REPRIORITIZES LIVES IN LSU THEATRE'S "JOINED AT THE HEAD"
November 5, 2004
BATON
ROUGE - LSU Theatre's Studio Season continues with Catherine Butterfield's
"Joined at the Head", November 12 - 21 in Theatre 106
-- Music and Dramatic Arts Building on LSU's campus.
Directed by Chelsea Marcantel, "Joined at the Head" focuses
on the chance encounter and friendship between Maggie, a celebrated
author, and Maggy, a terminally ill cancer patient. Although these
women share the same name and have loved the same man, they have
not experienced life with the same motivations.
"Ironically Maggy, who is terminally ill, has lived a life
full of love, relationships and memorable experiences," says
Marcantel, an LSU Theatre Performance senior. "Maggie, on the
other hand, has put emphasis on money, success and fame her entire
life."
While watching Maggy fight at the end of her life, Maggie realizes
that her priorities have been superficial. With Maggie as the narrator,
audience members watch her attempt to reexamine and reckon with
both her professional life and past personal choices.
"Unfortunately, female relationships are usually portrayed
as petty, insincere and backstabbing on stage and TV," says
Marcantel. "Maggy and Maggie form a sincere friendship that
people can relate to."
With an honest and sincere friendship between the two main characters,
Marcantel saw this as the ideal production to direct.
Performances run November 12, 16 - 19, and 21 at 7:30 p.m. with
matinees on Sunday, November 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. in Theatre 106
at the Music and Dramatic Arts Building on the LSU campus. Tickets
are available one hour prior to performances for a suggested donation
of $6.
